description

AN/SSQ Series Production Sonobuoys are the principal sensors used by U.S. Navy Air Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) forces in carrying out their primary mission functions of detection, classification and localization of adversary submarines during peacetime and combat operations. A capability gap exists to detect submarines over wide areas in deep open ocean environments. Through the development of a new sonobuoy, the AN/SSQ-145, and new acoustic processing software, the UnderSea Advantage (USA) system-of-systems will increase the area coverage to close this gap. Prototypes must be compatible with production items listed in the Performance Sonobuoy Specification (PSS) requirements.
