Tethered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Live Experimentation Payload System (TULEPS)
July 15, 2025
description
The integration of payloads onto UAVs can be very time consuming and costly due to specific requirements associated with some UAVs. Furthermore, the use of fleet-representative aircraft to conduct such efforts is also very costly and time consuming. This project is focused on the use of a Ship Base Unit System (SBUS) that incorporates a tethered UAV. The SBUS connects to the tethered UAV and provides both power and control for the UAV as well as data connections and power for the payload system via tethered device. This purpose of this project is to develop a self-contained, Tethered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Live Experimentation Payload System (TULEPS) that can be easily integrated onto any ship by only needing to be chained down and connected to the ship’s power.
